Hexion Gives Back to The Community

Throughout the past year, Hexion’s Oilfield Technology Group (OTG) has concentrated on giving back to our surrounding communities by partnering with organizations at our various locations in Houston, Brady, and Cleburne in Texas along with Shreveport in Louisiana. As a global leader in the industry, helping communities and making a positive difference is something we strongly value.

On May 9th and 16th, 2016, the Houston team packed and delivered more than 3,000 lunches for preschoolers. When the devastating flood hit the Houston and surrounding communities in April, our team also hosted a drive to collect essential items that were needed. The boxes of donated items were given to a local church that hosted the flood victims. The team also worked with the Hexion Stafford location in August to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for low-income Houstonians.

Their work was highlighted in an article in the local newspaper. They engaged in joint hazard training with the local EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and fire departments to help them improve their skills. The team also participated in the “Mission in Brady” charity where over 20 associates joined with local church groups to work on improving six homes in the local community. They joined the mission from June 3-11, 2016 and placed a newspaper ad to increase community participation for the events. The Brady team continues to work with local churches to restore homes for the needy by painting and installing windows, roofs, and handicap ramps. In addition, they helped the local Cub Scouts earn their first responder pin and cooked for the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet.

A training exercise was conducted that allowed the fire department to perform aerial rescue training from the top of Hexion’s silos. They participated in a confined space rescue using the EMS’s weighted dummy. A tour of the facility was given to new members of the Cleburne Fire Department and EMS to help them learn how to respond in a manufacturing environment. Afterwards, the Cleburne team provided lunch to thank them for their service. The weekend of June 10, the team (which included a high percentage that served in the armed services) participated in the Wounded Warriors Half Marathon in Dallas to support the men and women that have served our country. Hexion manned a watering booth to provide water and sports drinks for all the racing participants as well as clean up cups and trash after the run. Once the race was completed, a lunch was held for all of the Hexion participants and family members to show our support for our associates that served in the military.

The team also organized an appreciation dinner for the local fire department and responders for the Port of Shreveport area.

The employees at Hexion’s Oilfield Technology Group sites value giving back to their communities and making a positive difference. By volunteering their time and hosting events, more preschoolers received lunches, flood victims gained essential necessities, and needy families had their homes greatly improved. We sincerely appreciate our local fire departments, EMS, and veterans and will continue outreach programs to show our appreciation for all first responders along with public service men and women.
